Families with 2013 Ford C-Max, Escape and Focus vehicles will be paying a visit to the nearest Ford service department as soon as possible, over a defective child safety door lock.

The defect means that the door of the vehicle could be opened from the inside, while the car is in motion. Ford claims that the defect is due to a mix-up with one of its suppliers, and that it will be resolved by installing new child safety locks.

While no crashes or injuries have been linked to the defect, Ford is still recalling 5,675 vehicles in the US and another 859 in Canada.

This could be seen as another blow to Ford’s reputation, with the company issuing several recalls on new vehicles. Many are considered quite serious, including engine fires with the new Fusion and Escape models.
